Green Mountain is about 15 miles from downtown Denver, and close to the town of Morrison. Nearby attractions include the Red Rocks Ampitheater and Park, and Dinosaur Ridge.
Green Mountain is popular with mountain bikers, hikers, and dog walkers who share the miles of singletrack trails. There is also a wider, gravel service road leading to the radio tower near the summit from the large parking lot on S. Rooney Road. The vegetation is mostly grasses and shrubs, allowing for sweeping panoramic views of the city and mountains.
The parking lot on S. Rooney Road has approximately 85 designated parking spaces, plus room for additional overflow parking. A pedestrian bridge provides into the park access across Highway 470. Parking is also available at Forsberg/Iron Spring Park across the street to the south along W. Alameda Parkway. A few smaller parking lots can be found on W. Alameda Parkway on the eastern edge of the park.
Stay on existing trails to prevent erosion, as well as to avoid Rattlesnakes. The northern section of the park was also used as an artillery target range for Camp George West in the early 20th century, and some unexploded ordinance may still exist.
