These are thrilling sports to watch, but they're even more fun to experience. Come out to Mt. Van Hoevenberg to find out what we mean:
Climb into a Lake Placid bobsled and hear the roar of runners over ice as you speed down the track.
Click into a pair of skis and glide through the serene Adirondack woods at your own pace.
Head to the rifle range and sharpen your aim.
At the Olympic Sports Complex, you can watch people do incredible things, or you can do them yourself. Check our Olympic Sports Complex event schedule and come watch a race or try bobsledding yourself.
Our world-class cross-country ski trails range over 50 km of rolling Adirondack terrain. Step into a pair of skis or snowshoes, breathe in the fresh, crisp air and follow our meticulously groomed trails through the snowy woods at your own pace. What we have in here is the best of Lake Placid cross-country skiing and Snowshoeing, and it's yours to explore.
If you're curious about Biathlon training, the one Olympic sport that combines cross-country skiing and target shooting, come down to the range and give it a shot. You'll get a primer on gun safety and then line up against the same targets the world's best Olympic biathletes face.
Mountain Biking
It doesn't get much more fun, invigorating, thrilling (and did we say fun?) than it does at the Olympic Sports Complex. We have more than 30 km of trails that climb, dip and twist through pristine stands of Adirondack hardwoods and sky-scraping pines. If you're a veteran trail rider, you'll find plenty to challenge you: all the jumps, steeps and hair pin turns you could ever want and terrain that varies from open meadows to single-track in secluded forests.
If you're new to the sport, this is the perfect place to get started. Our trail system has plenty of mileage to offer riders of all levels. The staff at our teaching center, where the motto is "Fun, not Fear," will show you everything from how to get the most out of your bike to how to conquer hills safely. You'll build confidence, learn new skills, surprise yourself by what you're capable of doing on two wheels, and come away from your lesson with a new love for a new sport.
Horseback Riding
Whether visiting Lake Placid or the Adirondack Coast, The Adirondack Equine Center and Horse Rescue is a family horseback-riding adventure for all ages. Enjoy the spectacular scenery of the High Peaks and the Lake Placid Olympic sites. Trail rides run through an Adirondack forest and our knowledgeable trail guide leads the way, provides assistance, and answers any questions you may have. You will appreciate the personalized attention and patience of the staff and gentleness of the horses. Prior to every trip, riders go through an orientation lesson covering all safety points and the basics of natural horsemanship. Every effort is taken to help ensure that both horse and rider are a comfortable fit.
